Beasley Fuel Up to Play 60Beasley Elementary will continue to promote exercise and healthy diets after receiving the Fuel Up to Play 60 grant. The grant, sponsored by the NFL and Midwest Dairy Council, provides funding for a healthy eating plan and physical activity plan.

The healthy eating portion of the grant supports Beasley’s current Hunger Stops Here program that helps make sure all families have food on the table. A refrigerator, insulated food carriers, cookbooks, reusable tote bags, a utility cart and healthy fresh food and dairy for families was purchased with $2,000 from the grant.

The physical activity portion of the grant aims to provide students with more activity choices at recess. A Play 60 Jump and Move stencil, paint supplies and storage containers were purchased with $1,345 from the grant.

“This grant will allow our students to be more physically active during recess by giving them new, varied painted activities on the blacktop,” said Andrea Deane, Beasley Elementary principal. “It also provides much needed organizational items, a refrigerator and healthier food choices for families that we would not be able to fund on our own.”

Beasley Elementary students also have access to the Fuel Up to Play 60 Homeroom website that has videos and activities for students to learn about what’s good for their bodies, the planet and the community.
